Meet our Members: Featuring Karen Keiper

Who is your hero? My Mom, she raised 6 kids, worked full-time, never missed an activity for any of us. Was always there supporting us. Ingrained in us that family comes first.

If you could live anywhere, where would it be? Denver, CO

What is your biggest fear? At work – employees calling to say their check is wrong. Personal – that something would happen to cause my kids to be unhappy.

What is your favorite family vacation? Getting the entire family together, on a lake, with my brother’s boat. With 5 siblings and their families, it’s chaotic, but lots of fun.

What would you change about yourself if you could? Learn how to say NO!!

What really makes you angry? Inconsiderate people

What fictional character do you most relate to? Charlotte from Charlotte’s Web - She teaches that compassion, bravery, love, and courage are the basis of true strength.

What motivates you to work hard? Perfectionism – trying my best to make everything perfect both at work and in my personal life.

What is your favorite thing about your career? I enjoy the connection with all levels of employees, from the CEO to the hourly employees.

What is your biggest strength that makes you successful? Perfectionism again, and my “team player” attitude to help wherever I can. I’m always learning.

What is your proudest accomplishment? Obtaining my CPP and being the past President of FVPA and of course my 2 kids.

If you could compare your job to a movie, which title seems most appropriate? The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.

What would you sing at Karaoke night? Anything Barry Manilow (yes, I’m showing my age!)

What made you passionate about payroll? When I first started doing payroll, I felt that this was something I could do. Little did I know that I would still be doing it 25 years later. The challenges of keeping up to date with all the ever-changing regulations is a struggle, but so worth it.

What do you think could change this industry for the better? Why should people want to pursue payroll as a profession? It’s challenging, and never boring.

What is the most fulfilling part of your membership in FVPA? The great friends I’ve made. The networking is amazing, and I love the fact that I can reach out to my fellow members for help or advice on any issues that arise.
